In the ceremonial hall of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, on 17 April 2015, the Committee for the village of Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts organized the appropriate conference on which is presented a monographic study "Development of family businesses in rural areas",edited by the Institute of Agricultural Economics, Belgrade, published together with the Committee for the village of the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Institute for Science Application in Agriculture, Belgrade. The monograph proposed solutions to the villagers to maintain and organize the countryside with the aim of a better life and contemporary production.
The conferences were opened by academician Dragan Škorić, president of the Committee for the village of SASA and to the participants were addressed by Prof Danilo Tomić, PhD (Committee for the village of SASA) and Prof Jonel Subic, PhD (IAE). The target groups for the presentation of this monograph series are: Local Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Regional Chamber of Commerce and the unemployed registered with the National Employment Service.
Through the monograph were presented the current state of the Serbian economy, business environment and competitiveness and entrepreneurial economy; encouragement of entrepreneurship in agribusiness in the village and role of managers. Also were represented the types of family businesses, as well as perspectives of development of family business in the country. Emphasized is the importance of creating a brand, a product that will be competitive in domestic and world markets. With reference to the legislation currently in force in the EU (for growing crops, milk and dairy products, meat and meat products, wine and spirits; beekeeping; geographical indications and standards in food safety, etc.) is given guide to the establishment company together with a list of all necessary documents and useful addresses.
The opportunity for the presentation at the meeting had six successful family businesses, like real positive examples of practices:
- AGRANELA DOO - Valјevo, production and export of plums;
- MACVAL TEA DОО - Čoka, production of medicinal herbs;
SUNCOKRET DOO - Hajdukovo, production of healthy food; - ZLATIBORAC DOO - Mačkat, meat processing;
- STAMEVSKI DOO - Stara Pazova, candy production;
- PODRUM KUZMANOVIĆ - Čerević, production of alcoholic beverages.
Based on the presentation and constructive discussion were provided conclusions and recommendations, according to which the creation of family businesses is a good way to reduce unemployment of rural population (especially employment of young of all educational profiles); the possible creation of gross domestic product and strengthening of economic activity, and so on.
The monograph provides guidance in the establishment of family businesses, with good practical example, which can be put into a whole all the actors of society: government institutions at all levels, the media, current and potential producers.
