Institute of Agricultural Economics Held the International Scientific Conference "Sustainable agriculture and rural development - VI” in Belgrade
International scientific conference "Sustainable agriculture and rural development - VI” has been held in Belgrade on 11th and 12th of December 2025. The organizer of this traditional International scientific conference was the Institute of Agricultural Economics from Belgrade, and co-organizers were many respectable educational and scientific institutions, a total of 55 of them, as well as the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the Cooperative Union of Vojvodina, and numerous scientific and professional associations from abroad.
At the opening ceremony of the Conference, the participants were welcomed by Milan Krkobabić, Minister of Rural Affairs; Marija Gnjatović, Ph.D., State Secretary at the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia; Danijela Mirjanić, MSc., State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia, representatives of the Embassies of Romania and China, as well as numerous distinguished guests.
This Conference every year brings together a significant number of scientists and researchers from Serbia and abroad. Our goal, as the motto of the Conference says, is to build a sustainable future through science, that is, to contribute to the sustainable development of agriculture and rural areas in our country, emphasized in his welcoming speech Prof. Jonel Subić, Director of the Institute of Agricultural Economics from Belgrade.
The Conference featured 80 papers, by more than 250 authors from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Romania, Bulgaria, Argentina, Spain, China and UAE. The research findings in the fields of biotechnology and agribusiness, rural area revival, and the use of digitalization in agriculture were all presented in the papers.
On the second day of the Conference, two panels were held: "Diversification of non-agricultural activities in rural areas" and "Cooperative networking for the purpose of rural development in Serbia". These panels were organized with the aim of connecting science and practice, i.e. the exchange of scientific knowledge and practical experiences, and with the aim of developing agriculture and rural development in the Republic of Serbia. The panel participants were prominent scientists and experts, who emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship and cooperatives for rural development. The panel also presented examples of good practice, as well as opportunities for rural development in the Republic of Serbia based on funding from Measure 7 of the IPARD 3 program, which allows for financing the development, in addition to rural tourism, of other service activities in rural areas.
This year's International Scientific Conference also confirmed the importance of the Institute of Agricultural Economics as one of the key carriers of scientific development in the field of agroeconomics and rural development, all with the aim of contributing to national and global sustainable development goals
